Class Descriptions ...

Bloodborne Pathogens (1 hour)    Cost $10.00
This class covers the requirement for Universal Precautions training.  Class time includes watching a video and discussion.
Prerequisite:  None

Workplace Diversity (1 ½ hours)    Cost $15.00
Everyone working together: an overview of general diversity issues.
Prerequisite:  None

Job Hazards (1 hour)   Cost $10.00
Covers home safety, storage and use of chemicals, poison control, lifting, transitioning, and transporting consumers when in the community.
Prerequisite:  None

Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness (1 hour)   Cost $10.00
Watch a video and discuss correct responses to fire and other home emergencies.
Prerequisite: None

Abuse and Neglect (11/2 hours)   Cost $15.00
This class reviews the indicators, signs, and symptoms of abuse and neglect; and the definition of “mandated reporting”.  It also includes a discussion about the environmental conditions of abuse and neglect and ways to prevent them.  This class is covered in Core Basic Training.
Prerequisite:  None

Core Basic Training (7 ½ hours)    Cost $55.00
This course covers basic introductory philosophy and ways to provide support to persons with disabilities. Bring a lunch to class.
Prerequisite:  None

Person-Centered Planning (4 hours)   Cost $35.00
Training covers the philosophy, principles, and techniques used in doing person-centered planning year around—not just at meetings.  (Material is taken from Mike McCarthy’s “Common Threads” training.)
Prerequisite:  At least 2 months working with persons with disabilities.

Medication Administration Level I (16 hours)   Cost $70.00
This class meets the DMH requirement for medication administration. The fee includes registration of class completion with the Department of Mental Health. Bring a lunch to class.
Prerequisite:  None

The Update:  Basic Medication Administration/ Re certification (4 hours)   Cost $45.00
Training focuses on the basic skills necessary for supporting consumers who self medicate or have minimal, or stable medication needs.  Also meets the re-certification requirement for Medication Administration Level I.  If you are using this class as a re-certification, you must bring a copy of your original Medication Administration certificate to class to be re–certified.  Bring a list of medications you currently administer to class.  Prerequisite:  None if used as Basic Medication Certification.  Medication Administration Level I if used as a re-certification.

 Standard First Aid (6 hours)   Cost $ 50.00
Training provided by a certified Red Cross Instructor. This class teaches both CPR and First Aid classes. First Aid is a three year certificationCPR is a one year certification. Bring a lunch to class.  Prerequisite:  None

CPR (4 hours)   Cost $30.00
Training provided by a certified Red Cross Instructor.  CPR is a one year certification.
Prerequisite:  Standard First Aid Certification needs to be taken first.  Take the CPR class to recertify CPR one year after taking Standard First Aid.

CPR/First Aid Challenge (1 hour)   Cost $20.00
Come ready to demonstrate First Aid or CPR skills and test out of the class. Plan to come for an hour for each class you plan to test.
Prerequisite:  Previous CPR or First Aid training.

Health, Nutrition and Diabetes:   Cost:  Free
Learn how your diet and exercise play a role in your health and risk of diabetes.  Learn how to support someone who has diabetes.
Prerequisite:  None

Let us know if you will send a payment, or bring it to the class.  Cancellations must be received at least 24 hour before the start of a class.  If you do not attend a class for which you have RSVPed, your agency will be charged for that class.  You must RSVP at least 24 hours before the start of a class. Directions to Bridges CSS (Bridges):  3114 Sutton in Maplewood. Mapquest is not very helpful! From Manchester and Big Bend, take Manchester east to the first stoplight which is Sutton.  Turn right on Sutton and go 4.5 blocks.  Bridges is on the left side of the street just past the mattress store.
